CompTIA's Network + certification has become a highly regarded, non-company specific, foot in the door certification for people entering networking as a career. Successful training in CompTIA's Network + certification gives you the perfect foundation to move forward in any aspect of network engineering.

Popular certifications often have a single technology company behind them, whether it's Cisco (the CCNA), Microsoft (the MCSE) or another key player. But how about certifications backed not only by industry powerhouses but also by thousands of other companies, all with the goal of providing vendor-neutral standards for the industry? CompTIA networking certification is an effort to provide this.

What Is CompTIA Certification?

CompTIA is a nonprofit networking association that specializes in credentials and training for industry-wide knowledge, from networking to project management. CompTIA's A+ and Network+ certifications are well regarded in the industry, but other certifications, such as IT Project+ and Server+, are gaining acceptance as displays of training not tied to one company.

Network+ Networking

CompTIA's Network + certification has quickly become a networking standard. Earning Network+ certification demonstrates that a student has the training to describe the features and functions of networking components and possesses the knowledge and skills needed to install, configure and troubleshoot basic networking hardware, protocols and services.

Training for CompTIA Certification

The exam tests technical training in the areas of media and topologies, protocols and standards, network implementation, and networking support. The exam also covers new technologies such as wireless networking and gigabit Ethernet.

The networking community identifies CompTIA Network+ as the perfect entry into a networking career. Top technology companies including Microsoft, Novell, Cisco, Compaq, Lotus and 3Com recognize CompTIA Network+ as part of their certification track. Many other corporations recommend or require the CompTIA Network+ certification for all their IT employees.

What will CompTIA Training Consist Of?

According to the CompTIA website, Network+ certification exams breakdown as follows:
  • Media and Topologies 20%
  • Protocols and Standards 25%
  • Network Implementation 23%
  • Network Support 32%
