Benefits Of Oracle Database Training
by Alex Russel

Oracle is the number two software company in the world and the world leader in database administration. For this simple reason, obtaining Oracle certification is a good idea for those interested in a career in database administration. In fact, according to Monster.com, 59 percent of CIO's surveyed by Morgan Stanley named Oracle as their primary enterprise database software.

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, computer systems analysts, computer scientists, and database administrators are expected to be among the fastest growing occupations through 2012.

Employment of computer specialists is expected to grow much faster than the average for all occupations as organizations continue to adopt and integrate increasingly sophisticated technologies, many of which will continue to be developed, implemented, and maintained by Oracle certification holders.

Oracle Training Brings Good Salaries

Salaries for Oracle certification holders are good as well. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that median annual earnings of database administrators were $55,480 in 2002. The middle 50 percent earned between $40,550 and $75,100. Statistically, chances are that most of these administrators, or DBA's, were Oracle certification holders.

Getting Oracle Certification

Experience is key for getting Oracle certification. Oracle as a company recommends that certification candidates spend six months working closely with Oracle type equipment before taking an exam. This on-the-job training will be crucial for passing a rigorous certification exam program.

Beyond database administration, Oracle offers certification in the following fields:
  • Database Operator Certification: Tests cover topics such as installing Oracle software and setting up accounts for new users.
  • Oracle Java Developer Certification: In conjunction with Java certification from Sun, the Oracle Java Developer certification is for professionals developing database applications with Java.
  • Application Developer Certification: Developers work to construct databases for use with client/server technology, the Web and other systems.
